I am an Associate Professor in the WVU School of Design and Community Development. My courses cover many aspects of sustainable approaches to the built environment.
Over the past several years I have conducted a variety of community engaged research activities.
One area focused on rural healthcare facilities to see how the physical design/layout of the facility could impact the delivery of healthcare in those facilities.
Another area centers on my love of music and musical traditions in Appalachia. I have developed, implemented, and written about a simple methodology for teaching community stakeholders how to create song lyrics from their individual and shared community experience.
My current engaged scholarship focuses on uncovering and documenting the rich folk music traditions in the coalfields of southern West Virginia.
Above you'll see tabs for these 2 pages that represent some of my music-based scholarship:
1. Songs and Stories of Scotts Run
2. Folk Music of the Southern West Virginia Coalfields
